2019 Dominar 400 vs Royal Enfield Himalayan vs Jawa 300: which one fits your style
Bajaj is gearing up for the launch of the much awaited 2019 Dominar 400 in the Indian market. There is nothing hidden now about the 2019 Dominar 400 other than its pricing. So, let’s talk about the competition 2019 Dominar 400 will go through in the current market scenario. We have picked up Royal Enfield Himalayan, Jawa 300, and KTM RC 200 for this ‘sort of’ comparison. We wanted to tell you the diversity that this price range has to offer. A street naked (Dominar 400), a classic (Jawa 300), an adventure tourer (R.E. Himalayan) and a sports class (KTM RC 200), what weapon would you pick!
2019 Dominar 400
First of all, let’s talk about what Bajaj has done with the 2019 Dominar 400. The next generation Dominar now produces around 5 bhp more at 39.5 bhp at 8650rpm whereas the torque rating remains the same at 35 Nm but arrives at 500 rpm later at 7000 rpm. 2019 version of Dominar received USD forks, Larger Radiator, DOHC Head, and Dual Barrel Exhaust among the mechanical changes. The suspension of the bike has been engineered towards the softer side and now the bike will be able to absorb shocks in a plush manner.
The weight has increased by 2.5 Kg and now Kerb weight stands at 184.5 Kg. Even with this addition of weight, the power-to-weight ratio is bumped from 189.5 bhp/tonne to 214 bhp/tonne. We can easily expect better acceleration from the bike. A 0 to 100 kmph timing will be under 8 seconds from the current 8.4 seconds. The 2019 Dominar 400 can be called a Hyper Tourer. We expect the price of Dominar 400 to be around Rs 1.8 lakh ex-showroom. Now we know about the details of new Dominar, let’s talk about the rivals in the same price range.

2019 Dominar 400 vs Jawa 300
Last year, Jawa 300 was launched by the Classic Legends in the Indian Market. The bikes received a massive response from the buyers which led to the stopping of online bookings. Jawa 300 is powered by a 293 cc engine which is 80 cc less than 2019 Bajaj Dominar 400. Both the engines are fuel injected, liquid-cooled as well as carries a 4-valve head. Jawa’s 300 cc motor belts out 27 bhp and 28 Nm torque at unknown rpm. Engines of both bikes are mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
The Jawa 300 and 2019 Dominar 400 are far apart in terms of design and performance. Dominar is a Hyper Tourer which is hell-bent to achieve high performance whereas Jawa is basically a Retro Classic bike with a modern heart. The Jawa is here to carry forward a legacy and is not made for high performance. Jawa 300, in the initial media rides, have clocked 0 to 100 timing of 12 seconds. The company says that Jawa will perform better in the production version.

However, Jawa 300 with Dual-Channel ABS carries a price tag of Rs 1.73 Lakh. If you didn’t like any Jawa 300 you have other choices too, Classic 350 or Bullet 350 they both are retro bikes too. If you can increase your budget, Rs 1.87 Lakh Bullet 500 also works fine.
2019 Dominar 400 vs Himalayan
See, if you don’t like, 2019 Dominar 400 or the Retro Modern Jawa 300, don’t worry. You have the choice of India’s most affordable Adventure Tourer motorcycle, the Himalayan. Royal Enfield Himalayan 400 is powered by a 411 cc air-cooled, fuel injected, single cylinder engine. The long stroke motor churns out 24.5 bhp @6500 and 32 Nm twisting force at 4500 rpm.
Himalayan has all that it takes for a bike to qualify for Adventure Tourer class. The front 41 mm forks and rear monoshock has a travel of 200 mm and 180 mm respectively. The 21-inch front wheel with 90 section tyre is large enough to tackle any kind of terrain. The rear wheel is 17-inch in diameter with 120 section rubber. The Ground Clearance is pretty high at 220 mm with a seat height of just 800 mm. Fuel Tank holds 15 liters which can provide a range of 450 Km with a fuel efficiency of 30 kmpl.

The Sexy Sleet, on the other hand, carries a price tag of Rs 1.82 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi. The next Adventure Tourer is BMW G310GS which is priced almost Double to that of the Himalayan’s price.
2019 Dominar 400 vs RC 200
If you are here, it means you are not interested in comfortable bikes (wink). The KTM RC 200 is a spine breaker of a motorcycle which is priced at a reasonable price of Rs 1.88 Lakh for the ABS variant. This one here, give you the feeling of riding a Moto2 sports bike from the past.
A unique exhaust note, committed riding position, the mad engine – all these gives you a feeling of riding a bike much higher segment. The RC 200 is powered by a 199.5 cc liquid-cooled, single cylinder engine. The powerplant pumps out 25.5 bhp @10,000 rpm and 19.2 Nm of twisting force at 8000 rpm. The motor is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The bike does 0 to 100 in under 10 seconds with a top speed of 140 kmph.
So, guys, this was a spec comparison of the upcoming 2019 Dominar 400 with the rivals of different segments with similar price tags. If you are wondering why we haven’t included Honda CBR 250R and KTM Duke 250 in this comparison. The reason behind that was, both CBR 250R and Duke 250 are priced higher than the bikes we have included here. RC 200 takes the place of CBR 250R and we have already included a Naked Bike, Dominar 400.
