KTM RC 125 once launched in India will go head-on with Yamaha R15 V3, it will be an interesting fight to watch

Okay so KTM found success in the sales of Duke 125. The little one is seeling around 3000 units per month and it matters a lot to the Austrian company. In a typical Bajaj fashion, KTM is seen testing its new offering which is the faired and sporty version of baby Duke, the RC 125. That’s right, KTM is planning to launch the sporty 125cc bike in India, maybe in June 2019, (I heard it somewhere).

The most important thing here will be the price of RC 125. Because, yeah, there is Yamaha R15 V3 which will try to block it from the people of this country. yamaha R15 carries a price tag of Rs 1.39 lakh ex-showroom and comes with dual-channel ABS. That said, KTM’s faired bike typically carries a premium of around Rs 25,000 to Rs 28,000 over its Naked counterpart.

KTM RC 125 will be most affordable RC bike in India

To take a look at the pricing of KTM bikes take the example of Duke 200 and RC 200. RC 200 is priced Rs 28,000 more than the Duke 200. If this strategy is carried over to the RC 125, the price will be on the higher side at Rs 1.53 lakh ex-showroom (adding 28,000 in 1.25 lakh).

At 1.53 lakh, RC 125 will be cheaper than RC 200 by Rs 35,000. But when looking from the R15’s perspective, it will be Rs 14,000 more. Believe me, its a very bad decision from the dudes at KTM’s big AC rooms. But wait, its not the end. What if KTM decides to reduce their profit share and launched RC 125 for an attractive price tag of Rs 1.4 lakh ex-showroom?

It is still a waste of money, Why? because at this price young college goers will buy it only for the namesake KTM RC. Yamaha will be a better choice because it pumps out 19 bhp against 14.3 bhp of KTM’s 125cc engine. Even the torque is more at 14.7 Nm against 12 Nm of RC 125.

Yamaha R15 V3 does 0 to 100 kmph in 12 seconds while RC 125 which will offer a similar performance of Duke 125 will do in 17 seconds. A full 5 seconds slower. Even the top speed of RC 125 will be around 120 kmph while R15 has a top speed of 150 kmph (speedo indicated).

It will all come to the limelight when KTM launched RC 125 in June 2019. Let’s wait and watch how things unfold.
