Honda seized fake and duplicate parts and accessories worth Rs 2 crore since 2017
Honda’s Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement Team had raided four locations in two cities, Delhi and Cuttack, in the month of June 2019. In the two cities, a total of 10,462 counterfeit Honda parts were recovered. These parts included spare parts, accessories, counterfeit dies, scooter guard kits, some packaging machines, and label printing machines. All these things were estimated to be around Rs 49 lakh.
Honda, with customer safety as the topmost priority, assembled a new Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Enforcement team in 2017. Since then, Honda IPR team has conducted as much as 15 raids and seized about 94,000 parts and accessories worth Rs 2 crore. The major cities raided till now are Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Cuttack, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Secunderabad.

Honda IPR team with the help of local police raided two fake Honda branded service centers in Cuttack and their owners are arrested. On the other hand, in Delhi, a couple of counterfeit parts dealers were nabbed – one in Bawana industrial area and another one in the Karol Bagh market area.
The company has increased the intensity of such raids from three in 2017 to six in the first half of 2019. Activa maker says that it will continue to seize counterfeit parts and accessories traders as well as manufacturers. Honda does not want its customers being played with and cheated. Moreover, the fake or duplicate parts can reduce the life of the vehicle also making them unsafe to use.
