Yamaha sold only 10 units of YZF R3 in December 2018, The reason is Kawasaki Ninja 300

Only 10 units of Yamaha R3 were sold in the month of December 2018. This slump in sales is a clear indication of the effect of Kawasaki Ninja 300 ABS. In fact, Kawasaki sold 220 units of little green monster in December last year. Moreover, the sales numbers registered by KTM RC 390 and TVS Apache 310RR were lower than the Ninja 300.

The reason for this drop for Yamaha is the higher price tag of Rs 3.49 Lakh on R3. This is Rs 51,000 more than Ninja and nearly Rs 1.10 Lakh more than KTM RC 390 which is priced at Rs 2.41 Lakh. The biggest difference among the full faired 300+ cc bikes is between Yamaha R3 and Apache 310RR which comes out to Rs 1.26 Lakh ex-showroom, Delhi.

Additionally, a typical buyer in India does not consider the power difference as the ultimate point of decision turns out to be the quality of engines and value for money proposition. Right now the best bang-for-buck a sports bike buyer can get is through the route of TVS Apache 310RR. Apache has a head-turning design, is pretty fast, and is comfortable for longer rides too.

The company is gearing up to launch the 2019 version of R3 in India. Only pricing of the new yammy will decide its fate in India. As Ninja 300 is going strong and will not settle until all other rivals are destroyed by its presence. Not to mention the price of spare parts of Kawasaki Ninja 300 is reduced by a huge margin which will definitely boost the sales further.
