Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500X ABS becomes the brand’s most expensive single-cylinder model with dual-channel ABS

Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500X ABS becomes the latest model in the homegrown brand’s portfolio to receive ABS. The urban cruiser motorcycle has received dual-channel ABS and it is priced at Rs 2.13 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). This makes the Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500X ABS most expensive single-cylinder motorcycle from the brand. Royal Enfield said it will equip all of its models with ABS by the end of this year. This is in order to comply with the upcoming safety norms.

The ABS variant of the model comes with Rs 14,000 hike over the non-ABS variant. Previously in November, Royal Enfield launched the ABS variant of Thunderbird 350X. Apart from the dual-channel ABS, mechanically this motorcycle is the same as the non-ABS model.

Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500X ABS

The power source for the Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500X is a 499cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine. Coupled with a 5-speed gearbox, the engine churns out 27.2 bhp of peak power at 5,250 rpm and 41.3 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. Fuel efficiency too is the same as the regular model. With this, the motorcycle joins the siblings like Classic Signals 350, Himalayan and Classic 500.

The Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500X is the bit more stylish and sportier version of the regular Thunderbird 500. It comes with bright colour schemes, a flatter handlebar for better riding stance and control. The colour coordinated wheel stripes and nine spoke alloy wheels wrapped with tubeless tyres add zing to the motorcycle.

Indian two-wheeler industry is all set to adopt the new safety norms from April 1, 2019. This requires all the motorcycles with an engine displacing more than 125cc to come equipped with ABS. The non-ABS variant of the Thunderbird 500X is likely to discontinue from then. All the two-wheeler manufacturers present in the Indian market are currently gearing up to equip the model with ABS.
