Hero MotoCorp is aiming to end the Honda Activa’s dominance in Indian market with half a dozen new scooters.

Hero MotoCorp might be the strongest player in the Indian two-wheeler market in terms of volume sales, but the brand is yet to grab a stronghold in the highly profiting scooter segment. Dominated by the Honda Activa range, the scooter segment has been performing immensely in last couple of years across the country. In an attempt to end the Honda Activa’s dominance, the homegrown two-wheeler major is planning to launch an array of new products in coming 8-12 months.

As the Hero MotoCorp is planning, we could see around half a dozen new scooters launching in coming one year that will strengthen the brand’s sales and will give it a stronger hold in scooter segment as well. The Hero Destini 125 was the latest model from the brand that has been launched on 22nd October, targeting the 125cc premium scooter buyers.

As the Hero MotoCorp promises, it will launch a sportier scooter in coming months that will be powered by a 125cc engine and will have disc brake as well. Expect this new model to lock horns with the Aprilia SR 125, TVS Ntorq etc. However, Hero MotoCorp is yet to reveal further details about the upcoming model. Apart from conventional fuel powered scooters, Hero MotoCorp is also working on electric powered models that are expected to hit the market by the end of this decade.

In order to boost the appeal of its products, Hero is focusing more on premium products with new technologies and upmarket features. As a result we have seen the brand introduced Xtreme 200R few months back. Next in the line is Xpulse 200. The scooter segment too is experiencing the same strategy from the brand.
