The newly launched Xtreme 200S carries an amazing price tag of Rs 98,500 ex-showroom Delhi

Hero entered in the 200cc motorcycle segment by launching the Xtreme 200R in 2018. After the gap of eight months, Hero came up with Xtreme 200S, which is a faired version of Xtreme 200R. One can argue that Hero just slapped a fairing on the 200R and launched as 200S. But believe me that’s not the case, the cycle parts and drivetrain may seem similar but a lot has changed in the motorcycle.

For a price tag of Rs 98,500 Hero Xtreme 200S is the most affordable fully faired sports tourer in the Indian market. Next faired motorcycle is Suzuki Gixxer SF which carries a substantial price difference of Rs 12,000. Another option is Pulsar 220F but it is a semi-faired bike albeit powerful.

The Xtreme 200S has a full fairing which gives it a sporty look as well as better aerodynamics for riding at high speed. It is a perfect tool for long distance touring under Rs 1 lakh. Speaking of the instrument console, there is a fully digital cluster with Bluetooth connectivity. The meter shows most of the details to the rider including gear position indicator.

The rider can connect his/her smartphone with the bike to get call and message alerts. Not only that, but the meter will also provide turn-by-turn navigation as well. High raise handlebar provides comfort for a longer period. A set of LED headlights spreads evenly and are bright enough to ride during night time.

Xtreme 200S’s 17.1 Nm torque is more than any 150-160cc bike in the same price range

Powering the Xtreme 200S is an air-cooled 199.6cc single-cylinder engine. This motor is good for 18.1bhp at 8000rpm and 17.1Nm at 6500rpm. The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The best part of 200S is that it weighs just 149 kg and hence the performance is more than what the paper suggests.

Another important point is the higher ground clearance of 165mm. This will be a boon on road-less terrain while riding to Leh or Spiti Valley. Fuel tank capacity of 12.5 liters might look quite less but the bike is good enough for 40 kmpl on the highways. Moreover, anything between 400-450 km range is achievable is the real world in a tank full of fuel. So, no problem here too.

Xtreme 200S has braking system of Karizma R, means they are good

Xtreme 200S rides on 100/80-17 tyre at front and 130/70-17 radial tyre at the rear. The benefits of a radial tyre is –  better contact on the road and lesser vibrations. It also helps in returning better fuel economy than the regular ply-tyre. With a diamond type frame and engine as a stressed member, the bike is extremely agile at the corners. Single-Channel ABS inspires confidence while braking hard. I won’t talk about the braking system as it is taken from the Karizma R and all of you know how good Karizma R’s brakes were.

I must say that if you are planning to buy a motorcycle and has a budget under 1 lakh (ex-showroom), then you must consider Hero Xtreme 200S. On-road price in New Delhi is around Rs 1.16 lakh. This is the most value for money motorcycle with best-in-class features you can buy at this price point.

Before ending, I must say that the exhaust muffler could have been lifted up for more sporty looks. The overall stance of the bike is quite appealing too. However, the looks are subjective to everyone’s taste. This one for a motorcycle under 1 lakh suited for road biased touring, but if you want something for off-roading, we’ll meet again in another article.
