Hero became the first two-wheeler manufacturer in India to get BS6 certification for Splendor iSmart
Hero MotoCorp, the largest two-wheeler manufacturer of the country, has received the BS6 certification for Splendor iSmart 110. The company is now the first two-wheeler manufacturer to receive such an honour. This BS6 certification was given by the International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT). ICAT conducted a test of compliance before awarding the certificate to Hero MotoCorp.
An interesting thing to know that all this happened just a couple of days before Honda could unveil their BS6 scooter. The Japanese company is preparing to launch its first BS6 compliant scooter on June 12th. Honda wanted to register itself as the first two-wheeler maker in India to launch a BS6 two-wheeler in the country but Hero took this opportunity from the Japanese giant.

Hero said in a statement. “The new Hero Splendor iSmart 110 has the technological prowess for meeting the BS6 norms and will now be gearing up to make its large portfolio of motorcycles and scooters BS6 compliant.”
What made Splendor iSmart BS6 compliant?
The 110cc motorcycle was equipped with several technology pieces to make it BS6 compliant. First of all, an Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) system was incorporated into the engine, this made the engine to run with better efficiency and reduced emissions. An ECU governed the EFI and O2 sensor (also called lambda sensor) which further helped in keeping the exhaust harmful emissions free. Finally, a closed-loop catalytic converter did the job of converting harmful gases into neutral counterparts.

Dinesh Tyagi, Director of ICAT said. “We congratulate Hero MotoCorp for becoming the country’s first two-wheeler manufacturer to get the BS6 certification. The BS6 emission standards are much more elaborate in their scope and integrate substantial changes to existing emission standards ensuring cleaner products to the consumer.”
Hero hasn’t revealed the price of the new BS6 Hero Splendor iSmart 110. We cannot say for sure how much the price might have increased. However, we expect an increase in the price of around Rs 5000 to Rs 6000.
