Suzuki Gixxer 250 will rival directly against Yamaha’s FZ25 which retails at Rs 1.33 lakh ex-showroom

Nearly two years after Yamaha launched FZ25, Suzuki Gixxer 250 is set to launch in India. There were many rounds on the internet about a 250cc motorcycle from Suzuki. Now the Japanese giant teased an image on Twitter with “Witness the dawn of greatness” caption. The launch date is revealed to be 20th May 2019.

Suzuki did not tell about the motorcycle but we are hundred percent sure that this is a 250cc Gixxer. This is because the phrase, Dawn of greatness says so. It makes us believe a new bike will be launched which is great (in power and performance). The company also says that this one will be the most exciting launch of the year 2019.

A facelifted Gixxer 155 cannot be termed as the most exciting launch, because, seriously? Are you excited for 155? No? Good. So, it is a 250 just get it done with it.

If you are wondering where Suzuki got this engine from? I have an answer to that too. This 250cc single cylinder engine will be derived from 2009-2019 Suzuki TU250X motorcycle. You can read more about it Here. However, this engine on TU250X produces only 16 bhp and 17 Nm of twisting force.

I know you are now worried about these power figures, but worry not, Suzuki will retune this engine to make it generate around 20-22 bhp of raw power and about 20-21 Nm of torque. Now since this engine has a 2-valve head and is air-cooled, don’t expect it to produce anything more than 22 bhp.

Liquid cooling is kept away from the bike to keep the cost down. Though bike will get electronic fuel injection for usability, refinement, throttle response as well as tighter emissions. Suzuki, like Yamaha, will keep things as simple as possible in order to place it in a price bracket which now includes MT-15.

Lastly, if we speak about the components, the bike will get a fully digital instrument cluster as we see in 155cc Gixxer. Fat telescopic forks, rear monoshock. Twin Disc brakes with ABS as standard. It is not yet known whether ABS will be a single channel or double channel unit.

The price of Suzuki Gixxer 250 will hover around the price tag of Yamaha FZ25 to keep the competition striking and interesting. Pricing it under Rs 1.4 lakh mark will make the bike an interesting buying option if it performs better than FZ25. Otherwise, Yamaha FZ25 is a perfect option in that price range.
