Benelli Imperiale 400 to launch soon, bookings are now open

Italian motorcycle manufacturer Benelli has opened the bookings of its upcoming classic retro bike. You can now pre-book the Benelli Imperiale 400 for a token amount of Rs 4000. The classic bike gets 3-year unlimited km warranty. It is available in three color options – Red, Black, and Chrome. The expected price of the bike is Rs 2 lakh ex-showroom.

The Imperiale 400 will rival the likes of Royal Enfield Classic 350 and Jawa 300 if priced well under Rs 2 lakh. If the price is not kept under Rs 2 lakh, the competition will be changed to Bullet and Classic 500 from the Chennai based manufacturer. Further, if price inches towards Rs 2.5 lakh mark (which would be too optimistic), the Imperiale 400 will be a failed product right from the launch as at this price there are other options for better motorcycles.

Company has said that they are sourcing some parts from the local vendors to keep the price in check. Basic equipment like the electrical unit, tyres, cables, instrument cluster etc will be sourced from India itself. These things will help in keeping the cost of consumables lower than the import parts.

Powering the Imperiale 400 is a 373cc air-cooled engine with a 2-valve head. This engine makes 20bhp at 5500rpm and 28Nm torque at 3500rpm. These figures are similar to that of Classic 350 which starts from Rs 1.45 lakh ex-showroom for base ‘S’ variant.

Benelli, at present, has about 20 dealers in India which can be the limiting factor when it comes to sales. If any international motorcycle company enters the premium mass market segment in the country, they are expected to open at least 50 sales and service points to propel sales.

The launch of Benelli Imperiale 400 will happen in the month of October 2019. One can book the bike through offline as well as online modes. The deliveries of the retro bike will commence from Diwali.
