Bajaj Dominar 250 Motorcyclediaries

Upcoming Bajaj Dominar 250 will be priced in the range of Rs 1.5 – 1.6 lakh mark

If you guys remember, last year we speculated that Bajaj might launch a smaller version of the Dominar 400 in order to increase its sales in the Indian market. Now, the same has been spied testing by our friends at Rushlane. Bajaj Dominar 250 launch date will lie somewhere in the second half of the year 2020. Here are some images of the Dominar 250 under testing.

As you can see, the body panels of Bajaj Dominar 250 is similar to that of the Dominar 400. However, the tyres are thinner and swingarm is simpler box-type in design. There are USD forks from the bigger capacity Dominar but the front disc rotor size seems smaller. We expect the bike to feature instrument console of the older Dominar sans trip computer. The exhaust end can is also a double-barrel unit and thus the exhaust note will be throaty. Here, the alloy wheels are different than what we see on the Dominar 400.

Powering the Dominar 250 will be KTM 250 Duke sourced 248cc single-cylinder engine with 4-valve head. However, the engine is Dominar 250 will feature three spark plugs along with 4 valves. There is no doubt Bajaj Dominar 250 will be a BS6 spec motorcycle at the time of launch. This powerplant in the Dominar will be detuned to about 27-28bhp and not more than 23Nm torque. This detune will make sure the engine in KTM 250 Duke remains a more premium version. The engine will continue to use a 6-speed gearbox for the smaller Dominar.

It was earlier reported that Bajaj is also working on a 250cc adventure motorcycle which will be the spiritual successor to the Bajaj Adventure Sports motorcycles. The 250cc KTM engine will also serve its purpose on the upcoming Husqvarna Swartpilen 250 and Vitpilen 250 for the Indian market.

We expect that Bajaj Dominar 250 launch price to fall around Rs 1.5 lakh mark. This will make sure the bike is priced at about Rs 40,000 cheaper than its elder sibling, the Dominar 400. At present, Bajaj Dominar 400 is priced at Rs 1.90 lakh ex-showroom in BS4 spec. The BS6 version of the Dominar 400 will see a price hike of about Rs 10,000 which will move its price to Rs 2 lakh ex-showroom.
