Bajaj Chetak price in India starts from Rs 1 lakh for the Urbane variant

Bajaj showcased the Chetak electric scooter in the month of October last year. That time Rajiv Bajaj said that new Chetak electric scooter will not cost more than Rs 1.4 lakh on-road. Now the company has revealed the price of Chetak electric scooter and comes in two variants – Urbane and Premium. The base variant of Chetak electric is priced at Rs 1 lakh ex-showroom and with comes with drum brakes at both ends. Bajaj Chetak premium edition is priced at Rs 1.15 lakh ex-showroom and this variant comes with front disc brake and luxury finish.

The price is inclusive of FAME-II subsidy but the customer has to pay extra for the insurance and road tax. Bookings of the Chetak electric will start from 15th January 2020 in Pune and Bengaluru. At present, the luxurious electric scooter is available through select KTM showrooms. One can also book the electric Chetak online via www.chetak.com. Test rides will begin in the two cities by the end of January. Booking amount is set at Rs 2,000 and the deliveries will start from the end of February 2020.

Speaking about the powertrain, the electric Chetak is powered by a 3.8kW AC motor which draws current from 3kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The traction motors is placed in the single-sided swingarm and transfer power through a highly efficient automatic gearbox. There are two riding modes – Eco and Sport. The electric scooter will give a real-world range of about 95 km per charge.

One can charge the Chetak from any household 5-15 ampere socket. The charge time will be around 5 hours for 100% capacity. There is no option for DC fast charging and the battery is also not removable.

Bajaj Chetak is built on a sheet metal frame which will make the scooter more robust. Bajaj claims to have manufactured the scooter at state-of-the-art dust-free and a temperature-controlled facility at Chakan, near Pune.

Bajaj Chetak has horseshoe-shaped LED headlight with DRLs. The switches are feather touch units to provide a premium touch to the scooter. Level of detail on the Chetak is clearly visible on handlebar grips, levers as well as rearview mirrors. Urbane variant will have the option of 2 vibrant colours while the Premium variant will have 4 colour options with a luxurious touch and feel quality.

Bajaj is offering three free services to the Chetak and each service interval stands at 12,000 km apart. The first service of the scooter will come at 12,000 km where all the cycle parts will be checked. The warranty on the scooter is for 3 years or 50,000 km (whichever comes earlier). Bajaj claims that the lithium-ion battery pack has a life of 70,000 km before replacement.
