Yamaha MT 15 price in India is Rs 1.36 Lakh ex-showroom, Delhi. Will rival KTM Duke 125, Pulsar 200 NS, and Apache 200 4V

After a lot of Spy shots, MT 15 is now launched. Yamaha MT 15 price in India is Rs 1.2 Lakh ex-showroom. You can also say that this is a naked version of the highly successful sports bike in India, the Yamaha YZF R15 Version 3.0. The bike is available in two color options – Metallic Black and Dark Matt Blue.

Looks

All LED headlight is the main point of attraction here, two aggressive DRL (Daytime Running Lights) along with a single LED projector main lamp. Sharp fuel tank steals the limelight. A single seat is used instead of the Split seat in order to provide comfort to the pillion as well.

Colored Alloys are sorely missed in the Indian version of MT 15. The Dark Warrior is available in Metallic Black and Dark Matt Blue color options. This is disappointing considering that in international market MT-15 has attractive color options with colored Alloy Wheels.

Engine

2019 Yamaha MT 15 is powered by R15 sourced 155 cc single cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. The Powerplant pumps out 19 bhp at 10,000 rpm and 15 Nm of twisting force at 8,500 rpm. This large bump in power is achieved by Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) Technology. This tech helps in perfect actuation of valves at a precisely required time when the engine is running at high rpm. Thus increasing the combustion efficiency which in turn increases the power output.

However, the engine is tuned to low and mid-range performance instead of outright top-end as in R15 V3. Those 19 ponies will be transmitted to the rear wheel via a 6-speed gearbox and a slipper clutch. Even the final drive ratio is different as rear sprocket is 52 teeth instead of R15 V3’s 48 teeth. The acceleration will be impressive on MT-15 but top-speed is going to be lower than R15.

Equipment

I think that initial acceleration of MT 15 will be greater than that of R15 V3 due to, obviously, lesser weight. Suspension duties are performed by normal Telescopic Forks and Linked by Monoshock at the front and the rear respectively. This Dark Warrior rides on 100/80-17 section front tyre and 140/70-17 at the rear. A 282 mm front Disc with Dual-Piston Calipers and 220 mm rear disc with Single-Piston calipers helps in stopping the bike. Braking is made safer by Dual-Channel ABS.

There is a fully Digital Display in the cockpit of Yamaha MT 15 which is taken straight from the R15 V3. There is a great deal of information available including gear number and instantaneous fuel efficiency. The handlebar is a single piece unit, no Clip-ons here.

See, there are a lot of things to look at, but you are one hell of a person when your eyes are pulled towards beauty on two wheels. This guy here is one such animal who loves two wheels more than "Maa ke hath ka Khana." Not yet fully transformed into a seasoned rider but still, there are many things still "under construction." Akash is a writer, loves writing fiction but here at motorcycle diaries, its all about the world on two wheels.
