Honda launched the Activa 125 BS6 version which will go on sale before the festive season

The second largest manufacturer of scooters and motorcycles, Honda launched its first BS6 compliant two-wheeler in the Indian market, Honda Activa 125 BS6. Just two days back, Hero became the first manufacturer to get BS6 certification for a motorcycle. Honda, however, did the same in the automatic scooter segment.

In terms of design, you will not find many changes in the new Activa 125. However, at the mechanical level, it is a whole new scooter for the masses. new Activa 125 gets an all LED headlamp and tail lamp. The scooter gets a chrome chest at the front end and LED DRLs now have a premium feel. There is a 3D logo at the tail lamp which makes is quite an eyeful.

At the mechanical level, Activa 125 continues to draw power from the tried and tested 125cc engine. The powerplant now fueled by Honda’s trademarked PGM-FI fuel injection system. It is a first time for Honda to include electronic fuel injection system on a scooter in India. Power figures were not revealed yet as they are saved for the launch.

Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India, Yadvinder Singh Guleria said. “Leading the transition towards a pollution free India, we are delighted to present today – the new Activa 125 BS6. The impressive pace at which the automatic scooters have gained popularity in India gave us a strong conviction to lead this transformation with a scooter. Adding another surprise for our customers, for the first time in the Indian two-wheeler industry, Honda will offer a special 6 year warranty package on Activa 125 BS6.”

The Japanese giant has included its own Idling stop technology called eSP in the new Activa 125 BS6. This tech ensures that no fuel is wasted while the engine is at idling. That said, the engine can be easily restarted just by a twist of the throttle.

There is no separate starter motor to start the engine. The AC generator which generates electricity and charges the battery during normal running is being utilized as starting the motor. Since there is no starter motor and gearing, the engine startup is quiet, means it does not make noise.

Speaking of the instrument cluster, the all-new Honda Activa 125 BS6 brings more information to the rider. The digital-analogue meter will show you real-time fuel efficiency, average fuel efficiency as well as leftover range (how many kilometers you can go with the remaining fuel). Other than this, there are regular reading like odometer, trip meter, eco indicator, clock, and service due indicator. A new malfunction light is also provided which tells the rider if there is any serious malfunctions are occurring in the scooter.

Activa 125 BS6 is likely to come in two variants, Drum brake, and Disc brake. Speaking about the price, we expect the base drum variant to be priced at about Rs 70,000 ex-showroom. The disc brake variant will carry a premium of around Rs 3,000. The first BS6 scooter from Honda is expected to go on sale in India before the festive season kicks in September 2019.
