Tork Motors appoints ex-Yamaha head of Marketing, Roy Kurian as Head of Sales & Marketing

Tork Motors has appointed Roy Kurian as the head of Sales and Marketing. Roy Kurian worked with Yamaha India for 15 years before abruptly leaving the company in January 2019. He was the Senior Vice President at Yamaha India before quiting. Roy will work from the company’s Pune office. He will be focusing on introducing Tork’s first electric motorcycle T6X to the Indian market. He will also work on the strategic tie-ups, marketing & distribution of the T6X.

CEO & Founder of Tork Motors, Kapil Shelke said. “We are delighted to have a veteran like Roy join our team. We are set to achieve a strong impact on the launch of India’s first electric motorcycle and are banking on the wealth of information and experience Roy brings to the table.”

Roy Kurian said in a statement. “I am excited to be a part of the ‘future’ and it is the right time to dive in, learn & create a path for the inevitable EV space.”

Tork Motors introduced the country with T6X in 2016 but did not deliver the bikes to the customers as they were rigorously testing the electric bike for better reliability. Bharat Forge also joined Tork Motors as a strategic partner in 2018. Now their first electric bike T6X is nearly ready for deliveries and will be launched in Pune first before arriving in Bangalore.

Tork T6X will be targetted at the commuters who don’t like the idea of electric scooters. The T6X is powered by a DC motor with 6kW peak power. The top speed is rated at 100 kmph.

The range is 100 km per charge and, wait for it, the battery pack can be charged 80% in just 1 hour. The battery pack is 3.456 kWh – 48 Volts and 72 Ah capacity. The battery pack is designed to last for 1000 cycles which are real-world time frame is nearly 3-4 years. Headlight and tail lights are full LED units.

Tork Motors to deliver T6X in the Pune before moving on to Bangalore

The bike gets 4.3-inch digital instrument cluster which can be connected to your smartphone via Bluetooth. It will offer all the details about the bike like – Charge, Range, riding modes, turn-by-turn navigation. Also, your travel data can be saved over the cloud which can be later accessed through the Tok Motors mobile app.

Tork T6X is kept in place with a custom made trellis frame. Suspension duties are performed by front telescopic forks and spring loaded hydraulic damper at the rear. The electric bike rides on 80/100-17 and 110/80-17 section front and rear tyre respectively. Braking is achieved by 267 mm front disc brake and 220 mm rear disc. T6X has a seat height of 785 mm and a decent 160 mm ground clearance.

We will get to see the motorcycle in the flesh once it is launched in the country in the near future. Since Roy Kurian joined, we can expect better driving direction for Tork Motors as they will now be able to use the guide of this automobile veteran.
