New Hero Splendor iSmart BS6 gets fuel-injection and better exhaust system
Hero has launched its first BS6 motorcycle in the Indian market and that is non-other than Hero Splendor iSmart BS6. The 110cc commuter bike now commands a premium of about Rs 7,500 over its BS4 counterpart which it will replace in the near future. Hero Splendor iSmart BS6 is priced at Rs 64,900 ex-showroom, Delhi. Only one variant of the motorcycle is made available as of now and it gets front disc brake as standard.
In terms of design, the Splendor iSmart remains more or less unchanged. There are a couple of graphical changes made with an FI and BS6 sticker. There are subtle changes in the bike like ground clearance has been increased to 180mm from 165mm in the BS4 version. Both front and the rear suspension travel has been upped by 15mm which is certainly a good deal. The wheelbase is also tweaked and has been increased to 1281mm, about 36mm longer.
Hero Maestro could be the nest BS6 two-wheeler from the company
Speaking of mechanicals, where things get interesting. Powering the new Hero Splendor iSmart BS6 is same 110cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine with fuel injection. This powerplant makes the same 8.9bhp as before but has more torque, yes you read that right. During the process of converting the engine into a BS6 unit, the motor gains 10% torque. The twisting force produced is now rated at 9.9Nm from 9Nm in the BS4 version. The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox.
Bookings of the new BS6 Splendor has been started across the country and deliveries will start towards the end of November 2019. Hero will launch more products once inventories of BS4 stock exhausts.
