BMW will be first upcoming premium bike in India, to launch R 1250 GS.

2018 had been a great year with launch of quite a few middle weight motorcycles in the country. Its now time to look at the middle-weight to heavy-weight motorcycle segment which have high chances to launch in India in 2019. In the list are Kawasaki, BMW, Benelli and many more. Here we go…

BMW R 1250 GS

First in the list of upcoming premium bikes in India is BMW R 1250GS. Its been reported that BMW showrooms have started accepting booking for R1250GS. Bore and Stroke of the engine is increased by 1.5 mm and 3 mm respectively. Engine capacity now stands at 1254 cc from previous 1170 cc. Moreover, engine is now equipped with variable valve timing, ShiftCam technology. Power is bumped up to 138 PS from 127 PS and Torque is up by 18 Nm to 143 Nm. Expected price is around Rs 16 Lakh ex-showroom.

KTM 790 Duke

KTM is all set to drop its middle-weight Duke 790 on Indian shores this year. The design of this bike is done keeping localisation in mind. Though 790 Duke will come as CKD initially. In the future most of the parts can be manufactured here to reduce costs further. Expect the price of this mean machine to be Rs 7 Lakh ex-showroom.

There are a lot of features on offer on 790 Duke. Every thing from TFT instrument cluster, three riding modes, bi-directional-quick-shifter is available. Cornering ABS, Launch Control, Traction Control and other electronic wizardry will be present. It will powered by a 799 cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine which generates 105 PS @9500 rpm and 86 Nm @8000 rpm. What else do you need?

Kawasaki Z400

With Kawasaki Ninja 400 already in showrooms across the country, its time for its younger brother to join our streets soon. Z400 is street naked version of Ninja 400 and shares everything with its elder brother except the fairing. The engine has been detuned to produce 45 PS instead of Ninja’s 49 PS. Expect the cost of Z400 to be around Rs 70,000 to Rs 80,000 less than Ninja 400.

Triumph Street Twin

Another motorcycle in the list of upcoming premium bikes in India is the lovely Triumph Street Twin. Triumph has updated its 900 cc twin cylinder engine. Engine now pumps out 18% more power at 500 extra rpm. Torque output remains same but peaks out earlier at 3200 rpm instead of 3800 rpm. You’ll get updated suspension setup and updated brembo brakes at front end. ABS, torque assist clutch and Traction Control will come as standard across all variants. Expect the price to hover around Rs 8 Lakh.

Triumph Street Scrambler

The Triumph Street Scrambler 1200 is aimed at the off-road riding enthusiast and the specs certainly look promising. The 1,200 cc engine makes 90PS/110Nm, and state-of-the-art electronics including an IMU make it a juicy proposition. It’ll be launched in two variants, XC and XE, by the first half of 2019.

Honda CBR650R

A middle weight sports tourer, 2019 CBR 650R is a radical departure from its almost staid predecessor, be it in terms of looks or performance. On one hand, CBR1000RR Fireblade inspired fairing looks aggressive while the 95 PS inline-four engine. Not to mention, reduced weight will contribute to better power to weight ratio. Expect it to launch at a price of Rs 9 Lakh.

Benelli 752 S

Inspired by Ducati Monster, Benelli 752 S gets a muscular tank, a twin projector lamp, single piece seat and an exposed trellis frame. It is powered by a 750 cc twin cylinder liquid-cooled engine. Engine churns out a healthy 78 PS and 67 Nm along with a sweet howl. Dual channel ABS will be standard. 752 S will likely be priced around Rs 6 Lakh mark.

Benelli Leoncino 500

Finally, in the list is Benelli Leoncino which pumps out 50 PS and 45 Nm from 499.6 cc twin-cylinder liquid-cooled engine. The bike is almost ready to launch now. We believe the bike will be priced in the vicinity of Rs 4.5 lakh.
