KTM 250 Adventure to take on Royal Enfield Himalayan 400

KTM 250 Adventure is built on the 250 Duke platform and shares most of the components

After unveiling the much-awaited KTM 390 Adventure in EICMA 2019, the Austrian company has also unveiled its smaller sibling, the KTM 250 Adventure in the same ongoing event. The baby adventure motorcycle from the KTM will be built on the current-gen 250 Duke which is on sale in the Indian market.

The overall design and looks are not much different than the 390 Adventure as the platform is completely the same for both the bikes. However, what differentiates them both is the presence of Halogen headlight on the 250 Adventure whereas the 390 Adventure features vertically stacked LED headlights.

Powering the 250 Adventure is the same liquid-cooled 248cc single-cylinder engine that propels the 250 Duke in KTM’s lineup. This engine develops 29bhp and 24Nm torque which will be sufficient for highway rides for a bike of Duke’s weight. The not so exciting bit of the bike is the engine is still BS4/Euro4 compliant, however, it won’t be late before we get to see the BS6 version of 250 Adventure.

The engine is mated to a 6-speed transmission which makes sure that Duke does 0 to 100 kmph in about 9 seconds. However, the 250 Adventure is 7 kg heavier, so performance will go down a little.

Surprisingly, the 250 Adventure gets the TFT instrument cluster from the Duke/Adventure 390 which will also become a unique selling point of the bike. Front and rear wheels are 19 and 17-inch respectively and will come fitted with MRF Mogrip Meteor-FM2 dual-purpose tyres for the Indian market.

Upon the launch, KTM 250 Adventure will rival the Royal Enfield Himalayan 400 which is priced at Rs 1.82 lakh ex-showroom.

As we all know the 250 Duke is priced at Rs 1.95 lakh ex-showroom, India. The price of 250 Adventure will very well go up by Rs 30,000 and the ex-showroom price might hover somewhere around Rs 2.3 lakh mark. At this price, it will be cheaper by around Rs 70,000 if 390 Adventure is priced at Rs 3 lakh ex-showroom.

Akash Vashisth: See, there are a lot of things to look at, but you are one hell of a person when your eyes are pulled towards beauty on two wheels. This guy here is one such animal who loves two wheels more than "Maa ke hath ka Khana." Not yet fully transformed into a seasoned rider but still, there are many things still "under construction." Akash is a writer, loves writing fiction but here at motorcycle diaries, its all about the world on two wheels.
