EICMA 2019: BMW F 900 R and F 900 XR unveiled! India launch in 2020

BMW has unveiled its new segment of bikes with 900cc engine, the F900R, F900XR

German motorcycle manufacturer, BMW Motorrad has unveiled two new motorcycles at the EICMA 2019. The BMW F 900 R and F 900 XR have opened a new segment in the company’s lineup. Both the Naked streetfighter and the adventure tourer motorcycle are powered by a new 900cc engine which is derived from the F 850 GS.

When we put it to comparison, the F 900 XR is the little brother of powerful S 1000 XR but it is built on the F 750 GS and F 850 GS platform. The design of the bikes are fresh but inspiration is clearly visible. Both the bikes get full LED lighting system along with LED DRLs.

Powering the bikes is a new 895cc parallel-twin engine which is based on the F 850 GS’ 853cc mill. This engine produces 105bhp at 8750rpm and 92Nm twisting force at 6500rpm which will be more than enough for intercity runs and city use in case of F 900 R. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox via an assist and slipper clutch.

BMW F 900 R and F 900 XR will launch in India in mid-2020

Speaking about the electronic aids, both the bikes get ABD, traction control as well as two riding modes – Road and Rain. The traction control can be switched off as per rider’s wish. However, there is an additional electronics package available for the bikes which can be chosen while purchasing the motorcycles.

The Riding modes Pro will get you the best in class electronics for the F 900 bikes. One can get Engine drag torque control, cornering lights, keyless ignition, heated grips, two-way quickshifter, and an emergency call system, all these bells and whistles are available as options.

The F 900 R gets 41mm non-adjustable forks USD forks and fully adjustable rear monoshock. The dynamic package will get you a semi-active electronic shock but not the front USD forks. On the other hand, the F 900 XR gets 43mm USD forks and fully adjustable rear monoshock.

The new BMW F 900 series of bikes are yet to go on sale in the international markets. Once that happens the company will launch the bikes in the India market too.

Akash Vashisth: See, there are a lot of things to look at, but you are one hell of a person when your eyes are pulled towards beauty on two wheels. This guy here is one such animal who loves two wheels more than "Maa ke hath ka Khana." Not yet fully transformed into a seasoned rider but still, there are many things still "under construction." Akash is a writer, loves writing fiction but here at motorcycle diaries, its all about the world on two wheels.
