Benelli is now aggressive with its India plans, to bring TRK 251 and Leoncino 250 by year-end

Benelli is known for its value for money middleweight motorcycles in India. The Italian company which is bought by the Chinese company is planning to launch smaller capacity bikes in India. After discarding the plans for launching sub 150cc bikes in India, Benelli is gearing up to bring TRK 251 ADV and Leoncino 250 scrambler styled bike to the Indian shores.

Powering these bikes will be a liquid-cooled, single-cylinder 250cc engine. This powerplant churns out 25.8bhp and 21.2Nm torque. The numbers, however, looks a bit less to perform the off-roading task of TRK 251. These bikes are already available in the international market. It has to be seen whether Benelli will increase the power and torque numbers for the Indian market by retuning the ECU or not.

Both the bikes are hung on a trellis frame with USD forks and Monoshock doing the suspension duties. Braking department is handled by 280 mm disc at the front and 240 mm disc brake at the rear end. As obvious, a dual-channel ABS will come as standard for the Indian market.

These bikes are smaller versions of recently launched TRK 502 series and Leoncino 500 bikes. The TRK 251 will lock horns with Royal Enfield Himalayan 400 and will be cheaper than the BMW G310 GS ADV. The BMW bike costs Rs 3.50 lakh ex-showroom whereas the expected price of TRK 251 is somewhere around Rs 2.50 lakh mark. Leoncino 250, on the other hand, is expected to cost even cheaper at around Rs 2.20 lakh mark.

But one must look at the existing products to make out anything of these bikes. Recently launched Gixxer 250 costs just Rs 1.6 lakh ex-showroom, so even if Leoncino 250 is priced at Rs 2.20 lakh or even less at Rs 2 lakh, it cannot outmatch the price of Gixxer 250 or Dominar 400 for that matter. On the other end, we have Himalayan at Rs 1.8 lakh ex-showroom and pricing a 250cc ADV with just 25.8bhp at Rs 2.5 lakh will be an overkill.
