deus

Any well informed motorcycle enthusiast or serious rider certainly has come across Deus Ex Machina. What? Did I hear someone sarcastically shout  “of course not!!”.

That’s right. Deus (pronounced : day-us) is responsible for one a many drool worthy hand crafted two wheeled works of art out there. Their clientele is mostly celebrities and other big wigs who don’t blink when spending money. They’ve churned out some stunners for big names like Ryan Reynolds, Billy Joel, Orlando Bloom and Bruce Springsteen to name a few. Apart from Springsteen, each of them own at least 3 Deus’ creations.

If i was a bike I’d be pretty happy with that exhaust setup on me

I think all us throttle-heads will agree with the way Billy Joel puts it, “It’s like a temple of custom bike building.”

A Yamaha TZ250 given a look that it deserves. Yes, soak in all that 2-stroke goodness.

Deus have come a long way from 2006, since their inception. From custom bikes to motorcycle apparel, even surfboards and wet suits – all of this is sold through their flagship stores around the world – all with kicky names such as “The House of Simple Pleasures” in Sydney, Australia or “The Portal of Possibilities” in Milan, Italy.

But that’s not what I’m here to talk about. It’s the world renowned biker build-off that’s every custom motorcycle builders / riders / enthusiasts wet dream. Aptly named ‘The Deus Boundless Enthusiasm Bike Build Off’ (the inner builder in me just did backflips reading that).  “The institution that has come to be known as the world’s greatest celebration of two wheeled ingenuity…” reads a line in the description on their website, and boy does it stay true to that. The bikes on display go from one end of the creative spectrum and bust out through the other end. From the cleanest to the most intricate, or even outright wacky. Be it a moped or a hyperbike, they have it all. The first build-off was held back in 2010. Back then they were pretty strict about the rules and the participants built some really clean looking bikes but things got crazy in 2013 and even crazier in 2015. They didn’t want to ruin the spirit of bike building so they just kept adding new trophies for any new outstanding bike that was selected.

Builders from all around the world take part and the winners are then showcased on the global peoples choice awards voting site to decide the overall Global Winner. This years winner will be announced at EICMA (if any of you are interested). For those of you who know what EICMA is, come, join hands with me while we flip coins in to the wishing well, wishing for a plane ticket to the mecca of motorcycle shows. For those of you who don’t know EICMA, please leave the room, thanks.  Just kidding, come back.

This year the build off took place in Sydney, Milan, Venice (USA), Tokyo and Bali.

For all the nuts and bolts of the entire competition head over to their website and feast your eyes on some moto goodness.

Anyway,  I’m done here. I’m getting back to spending the rest of the day going through this years build off, on the interwebs and getting some “inspiration” for my next build *evil laugh*
